Would you donate a little time to help the children of Memphis?  Churches throughout our city have been challenged to provide mentors and tutors for students in the public schools.  Prescott members have volunteered at our neighborhood school, Sherwood Elementary, for some time now, but more adult volunteers are always needed.  Training will be offered at several times in September and October.  Volunteers must give permission for a background check.  If you are interested, please check with Annette Bickers or the church office.

After dinner (around 6:45) next Wed., 9/24, we’ll hear spokespersons for the local Republican and Democratic parties address issues in this fall’s presidential campaign, just before the formal debates begin.  This bipartisan event will be open to the public; invite others.  To join us for Wed. dinners at 6:00, please call at least two days ahead: 327-8479.

 On Sept. 26-27, Friday night and the first part of Saturday next week, the annual meeting of the American Baptist Churches of the South (ABCOTS) Area VI will take place at Friendship Baptist Church, Memphis.  Our pastor is helping plan this event, which starts with a dinner at 6:00 p.m. Friday and includes programs for all ages.  We're hoping for good participation, as we reach out to our sisters and brothers in other American Baptist congregations.  NOTE:  If you want to go, don’t let the cost deter you; see Marise for assistance.

 On Oct. 11-12, Saturday and Sunday, Prescott welcomes Rev. Dan Buttry, who travels the world for our American Baptist denomination, helping bring peace to places of conflict, much as Jimmy Carter does in the political arena.  He’ll do workshops for us on Saturday and preach on Sunday.  This is very important - don't miss it!
